Dying Safely

Standing on the shore

Sand in my toes

Firm and solid

Safe

Unlike the sea

Where waves roll in

Wild and white

Foam nearly touches my feet

But I pull back

Just in time

From rough, deep water

With an undertow

Filled with the unknown

Standing on the shore

On solid ground

No mysterious depths

Safely dying
